Based on the recent contributions, we emphasized that the following key problems should be firstly solved. (1) When did the strike-slip movement occur in Altun fault? The samples of deformed rocks from Altun fault belt yield a group laser probe 40Ar/39Ar isochronal age of 89～97Ma, which suggests that the strike-slip movement of Altun fault began around Late Mesozoic-Early-Cenozoic. (2) The structural survey and texture studies of deformed rocks on local outcrops are important to reveal the dynamics study of Altun fault. The displacement of the Altun fault can be measured by a displaced tectonic sedimentary face boundary. (3) The eastern extension and scale of Altun fault are also very important to study its influence not only on the western China tectonics but also on the Middle Asia continental tectonics. (4) The Altun strike-slip fault controlled and influenced the evolution of the basins in the both sides. What mentioned above will help us to do the further detailed study on the Altun strike slip fault, and has very important significance for re-understanding the continental tectonics, deposit belt distributions and oil explorations in western China.
