Abstract:
A radiolarian association in age of Late Tournaisian, Early Carboniferous, is found in a chert of Muztag ophiolitic melange, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It offers age data for this ophiolite for the first time. Combined with the radiolaria data found in the adjacent Qimantage and Hoh Xil areas, it is considered that the northern Qinghai-Xizang Plateau has rifted at several places during Early Carboniferous. These places may have been connected by strait, but whether they form a unified open ocean is clarified by further work.
