Based on geological characteristics of Fuyu and Yangdachengzi oil layers in the Sanzhao Depression, the north part of the Songliao Basin, an experimental model on lithologic reservoirs underlying source rocks was designed. Accumulating process of oil in the lithologic reservoirs underlying source rocks was reappeared through physical modeling experiment. Analyzing the forced status of oil and gas during the migration, this paper discussed the formation mechanism of lithologic reservoirs. The results of the experiment and the typical example showed that the formation of this type of lithologic reservoir might request two geological conditions, namely, a sufficient overpressure in the overlying source rocks and the faults connecting hydrocarbon source rocks and underlying sandbodies. The overpressure was the motive force having petroleum migrating downwards and the faults acted as channels of petroleum migration. The experiment must have a significance to explore lithologic reservoirs underlying resource rocks.
