The name "Mingshan bed" is suggested by Liu Ji -chen (1925) after the type section found in Mt. Mingshan of district Le Ping, province Kiangsi. At first it has been considered to be Carboniferous time. Since then owing to the discover of Lyttonia its age has been changed to be Late Permian. Finally some geologists hold the opinion that this bed should be Earlier or Late Permian with regard to its contact with the underlying and overlying rocks. And the unconformity existed between limestone of Mao-Kou formation and "Mingshan bed" is regarded as a result of "Mingshan movement". The author of this paper on the basis of a great deal of data obtained by himself pointed out that the "Mingshan bed" is not at all an, individual horizon and should be an alternation product of the limestone that lying between the coal series and its adjacent Mao-Kou formation under the effect of groundwater metasomatism. In this connection, the use of the names of "Mingshan bed" and "Mingshan movement" is no longer necessary.
