The Liguanqiao basin is situated at the southeast edge of the Qin Ling Eanges in the border region between Henan and Hubei. The "Red Beds" overlying uncon-formably the Palaeozoic or even older strata is extensively developed in the basin. A careful study on the sections exposed there has enabled the authors of the present paper to eatablish the normal stratigraphical sequence and the geological age (Late Cretaceous to Tertiary) for the "Bed Beds". Palaeontologically and lithologically the "Red Beds" of Liguanqiao basin with a measured total thickness of about 2900 meters may be divided into six formations.
