This paper discusses the Cathaysian structural system developed in Guandong and its neighboring regions, describes their general characteristics and traces the processes of its development. An emphasis has been laid on the stress and strain picture developed since the Paleozoic. The time and space variations of the active belts, including the tendency of their migrations toward the Pacific, have been summarized. It is pointed out that the study of the Cathaysian structural system may promote a better understanding of crustal movements.
