Thick Cenozoic terrigenous sedimentary packages shed predominately from the uplift mountain range have been deposited in foreland basins of the Tianshan. Rock magnetic parameters show that the magnetic mineral composition of the deposits include magnetite and hematite, and hematite as a relative high content. The AMS results of the section suggests a consolidated sedimentary fabric with an earliest deformation. The maximum principle axis girdle of the susceptibility ellipsoid of samples from section all point to a direction of west-east.
