Luanhe River, with a length of 1200 km, a. drainage basin area of about 4400 square kilometres and annual average sediment load of 19 million tons, has formed the present delta with the area of 320 square kilometres since 1915 year, of which the subaqueous part is about 250 square kilometres. The present delta is one of the Luanhe subdeltas in Ho-locene. Based upon the data from the field investigation and laboratory analysis, present Luanhe Delta can further be subdivided into several sedimentary units. The subae-rial part of Luanhe Delta is grouped into flood plain (active and abandoned) distributary channel, natural levee, lagoom, barrier bar, etc. The subaqueasu part of the delta consists of delta front and prodelta. In this paper, the characteristics of grain size distribution, combination of heavy minerals and assemblage of the microfossile in different sedimentary units are illustrated, and the relationship between the lateral distribution of sedimentary facies and their vertical sequence is also explained. The sedimentary fades assemblage of the present Luanhe delta is similar to that of Niger River, so the Luanhe delta can be considered as a model to understand the sedimentation of Niger delta.
