Accompanying enormous strike-slip faulting, an unexpected amount of itsvertical slip can be achieved, which is because the displacement vector isapproximately horizontal in the fault planes of a huge strike-slip fault system, aseveral hundred km strike-slip displacement of the fault system causes its verticalslip to reach over ten kms or a few ten kms so that middle or lower crustal rocksmay be uplifted and exposed.The sophisticated geometry of a strike-slip fault system and its displacement process demonstrate uplift even more in someparticular segments of the fault system.Studies of famous huge strike-slip fault systems worldwide give strong backing to the conclusion of the present paper.The enormous sinistral slip in eastern China and its adjacent areas haveplayed an important role in formation of their present regional tectonic frameworkand uplift as well as exposure of high pressure-ultrahigh pressure metamorphicrocks.
